You’ll love this secret tea bar if you like comfort food and fancy interiors

This unique tea bar and bakery cafe is perfect for titas who want to relax and slow down in the middle of the week
“Tea takes time to brew properly. When you sit here, you really have to slow down,” begins Ro Cortez-Bodegon, one of the partners at Perry’s tea bar and bakery. Partner Daenille del Carmen agrees, “You come here to take a pause from life.” Perry’s just opened recently at One West Campus BGC but is fast becoming a hangout for those who want to enjoy good food and drinks in peace and quiet.
The space is awash in natural light courtesy of floor to ceiling glass windows. Sheer curtains filter the brightness to create a relaxing ambiance. Interior designer Mau Nepomuceno incorporated a lot of black into the space. “We originally wanted a theme of gold, pink, and marble, but I’m glad we hired a designer. Most cafés now are industrial-looking. We wanted something prettier,” Ro explains.
The layout of the tea bar is simple and straightforward. Anchoring the space is a counter where diners can watch their tea being brewed. “It’s our specialty. We actually supply other restaurants with our tea. Soon we’ll supply bakery products, too,” says Ro. The goods in question are displayed at one end of the counter. A panel with a painting of a pug in a top hat is located to the left. “It’s hard to come up with a name for a restaurant. So we named ours in honor of our dog Perry,” she laughs.
The interiors feel luxurious but welcoming despite all the black and gold. Gray and gold benches share space with houndstooth stools and wooden chairs, while marble tables and gold accents add to the elegant look. Chevron-patterned tiles break up the marble floors. A rosé wall can be seen to the right of the counter, framed by greenery spilling on the sides. “We’re in the process of building our rosé wall. We also have unlimited sangria, wine, and a gin bar,” says Ro.
Perry’s menu takes inspiration from the travels of the partners. “We call it world cuisine,” says Ro’s husband Hatch Bodegon, who also serves as the tea bar’s chef. “Our food is also infused with tea,” Ro adds. One of their specialties is the Pureed Potato Truffled Dip which is served with slivers of bread. It’s an appetizer, but diners have been known to eat it on its own with a spoon. Familiar favorites include the tomato soup, mac & cheese, and tomato and meatballs, but Hatch has put his own spin on the menu with dishes such as the Crackling Pork Belly with Tamarind Coconut Sauce, the Stout Glazed Beef Brisket, and Grilled Chicken Thigh with Kaffir Sauce.
“Most of our stuff we get from our farm in Antipolo. We also use the plants on the bar in the kitchen,” Ro says of the wall where potted herbs serve as decoration, too. White bricks serve as the background, framed by gold accents and an awning made from black wire.
Despite its elegant interiors and sumptuous dishes, Perry’s is quite affordable given its location. With its relaxed atmosphere, great service, and good food, drinking tea will surely become something to look forward to any day of the week.
